Cyber fraudsters are sending fake links and APK files to mobile phones, claiming to collect e-challan fines for traffic violations in Mangaluru City. Such messages are being used to cheat the public, Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said on Friday.
He stated that eight cases of such fraud have been registered at various police stations in Mangaluru City this year alone. The victims have collectively lost Rs 44 lakh in these incidents.
Police Commissioner advised the public to remain vigilant against such fraudulent activities. Before making any payment towards traffic violation fines, vehicle owners must verify whether a case has actually been registered against their vehicle through the official e-challan website. The public has been urged to strictly follow precautionary measures to avoid falling victim to cyber fraud. People who have doubts about e-challan fine payment messages received on their mobile phones can contact Mangaluru City Police at 0824-2220823 for verification, Polic Commissioner added.
