Comprehensive plans are being prepared for the development of Bengaluru over the next 10 to 15 years, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said on Monday. He was speaking at a meeting of the advisory committee on the economic development of the Bengaluru Metropolitan Region.

The state has set a target of taking its economy to $1 trillion by 2047, while plans are being drawn up to increase it to $400–$420 billion by 2037, CM Shivakumar said. In line with this goal, plans are being prepared for better mobility, housing and industrial development in the Bengaluru Metropolitan Region (BMR). He also said there was a need to develop nine new integrated industrial townships in the BMR.

Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said that, as decided at the previous meeting, the entire Bengaluru Urban district would be brought under the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) in a phased manner to strengthen drinking water supply and sewerage infrastructure. This would help improve water distribution capacity and sewerage facilities across the district, he said. He added that steps would also be taken to map the entire road network in the district and prepare plans for its development.

A comprehensive mobility plan has been prepared to ensure smoother transportation in Bengaluru city and its outskirts. The meeting discussed a proposal to add another 312 km to the Metro network by 2037. The meeting also discussed the estimated water requirement of 3,600 MLD in the BMR by 2037 and plans to meet the drinking water and industrial water needs of the region. Chief Minister directed officials to give priority over the next 10 years to measures such as the reuse of treated water and filling of lakes, keeping in mind the city’s future drinking water and industrial requirements.
