Udupi Tulu Koota president B Jayakar Shetty Indrali has welcomed the Karnataka Cabinet’s decision to accord Tulu the status of the state’s second additional official administrative language in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts. The decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting held in Mangaluru on September 18. Jayakar Shetty expressed gratitude to Chief Minister D.K. Khader, Puttur MLA Ashok Rai and all legislators from the coastal region for supporting the demand. He expressed gratitude to A.C. Bhandary, president of the Akhila Bharatha Tulu Okkoota, and Tulu organisations in India and abroad for continuously raising the demand for official recognition.

“Today is a historic day for the entire Tulu community. It is an important moment that will instill confidence among Tulu speakers living across the world. This is a historic step towards the comprehensive development of the Tulu language,” Jayakar Shetty said. He said the decision was taken in the backdrop of the report submitted earlier by Dr. M. Jayakar Shetty said the decision by Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to grant Tulu additional administrative language status was a matter of pride for the Tulu-speaking community and would provide further impetus to the preservation and development of the language.
