A case has been registered against a priest of St Vincent Ferrer Church in Valencia, Mangaluru, for allegedly sexually assaulting minor boys on the church premises. The case was registered on October 15 under the POCSO Act, as the victim was initially hesitant to approach the police.
According to the complaint, the accused, Cyprian Pinto, allegedly called the boy to the sacristy room and sexually assaulted him when he visited the church for prayer. The boy was reportedly assaulted again on August 14 this year.
When the victim shared his experience with friends, they allegedly disclosed that they too had been sexually assaulted by the same priest.
The matter was subsequently brought to the notice of the Mangaluru Bishop, and a complaint was lodged with the police.
Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said further details could not be disclosed at this stage, as doing so could help the accused evade the law. Mangaluru South Police are investigating the case.
