Two 23-year-old youths died after a pickup vehicle allegedly rammed their two-wheeler following an altercation near Boliyar on Monday evening. Konaje police have registered a case against the pickup driver, Hafiz, a resident of Mangaluru, who has been taken into custody.

The deceased, Mohammed Junaid and his friend Mohammed Afraz, were travelling on a two-wheeler around 4 pm on October 19, with Junaid riding and Afraz as the pillion rider.

According to preliminary information, the duo had an argument with Hafiz over a trivial issue. The dispute reportedly involved a mobile phone belonging to another friend. After the two youths left the spot, the pickup driver allegedly followed them and rammed their two-wheeler, causing them to fall and suffer severe injuries.

Local residents shifted the injured youths to a hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries. The pickup driver allegedly abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene.

Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said the accused had been secured by the police and would be produced before a magistrate.

“During preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted to hitting the two-wheeler in a fit of rage following an argument. This account needs to be corroborated with witness statements and other evidence,” the police commissioner said. Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the incident.
