Coastal Talk News | Udupi
Engineers should cultivate the spirit of “Nishkama Karma” (Selflessness) and give priority to quality work to achieve fulfilment in their professional lives, said Dr Raghavendra K. Holla, Associate Director, Faculty Development and Welfare, Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal. He was speaking at the Engineers’ Day celebration organised by the Udupi Civil Engineers Association at Anantha Shayana Hall, Hotel Kidiyoor, on Wednesday. Dr Holla said engineers should view their profession not merely as a job, but as a responsibility to contribute to the development of society. Adopting new technologies and modern methods and maintaining high standards of quality would not only enhance professional growth but also benefit society, he said.
Engineers should not shy away from challenges in their field but take responsibility for finding appropriate solutions, he said. Along with technical knowledge, they should develop social concern, a spirit of service and a strong sense of duty. He urged engineers to follow the ideals, discipline, commitment and social outlook of Sir M. Visvesvaraya. S Ganaraja Bhat, AEE, MESCOM, Udupi Sub-Division, said engineers should develop a habit of continuous learning and remain committed to their professional responsibilities. They should undertake quality-oriented work that benefits society and respond sensitively to public concerns. Engineer Pattabhirama Acharya spoke about the life and contributions of Sir M. Visvesvaraya.
