Residents and commuters travelling downhill from Syndicate Circle towards Laxmindra Nagar are facing inconvenience due to the foul smell from sewage flowing through an open drain. Some restaurants and other commercial establishments are allegedly discharging wastewater into the drain without treating it, causing discomfort to pedestrians, students and local residents.

Despite the issue being brought to the notice of the Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC), the problem has remained unresolved for several months. The civic body has reportedly expressed limitations in taking action against the establishments violating the rules.

Harish Nayak, a Manipal resident, said the persistent violation by commercial establishments should not go unpunished. He urged the Udupi City Municipal Council to take action against those responsible for discharging untreated sewage into the open drain. Students and local residents are among those most affected by the problem. Parithosh, a student from Manipal, told Coastal Talk News that the situation was causing considerable inconvenience to people using the stretch. “The issue has continued for several months, even though the CMC is aware of it. There has been no proper resolution so far,” he said.
