Despite repeated efforts by authorities to curb the use of shrill horns, even government buses appear to be no exception to the violation. On October 3 around 9 am, an NWKRTC bus bearing registration number KA 27 F 0880, operating on Dharmasthala–Haveri route, used a shrill horn several times while approaching Manipal from the Hiriyadka side.

The repeated use of the loud horn caused distress and discomfort to several motorists and other road users. The incident stressed on the need for stricter enforcement and repeated drives against the use of prohibited shrill horns. KSRTC Mangaluru Divisional Controller Rajesh Shetty said he would bring the matter to the notice of the concerned officials in NWKRTC.

Udupi SP Hariram Shankar told Coastal Talk News that fines would be imposed against violators and that a drive against the use of shrill horns would be conducted. Regular enforcement drives are seen as essential to ensure compliance and reduce noise pollution on roads. Meanwhile a formal complaint has been submitted by this reporter to the Managing Director, NWKRTC, Central Offices, Hubballi, seeking action against the bus driver for use of the shrill horn. Chief Traffic Manager from NWKRTC has assured action against the violation.
