Udupi DC Swaroopa T K has directed officials to provide industrial plots, essential infrastructure and necessary guidance to entrepreneurs coming forward to establish new industries in the district. She stressed the need to create more employment opportunities by facilitating industrial growth.
She was speaking while chairing the District-Level Single Window Committee meeting at the DC’s office in Rajathadri, Manipal here on Friday. DC directed officials to expedite land acquisition and other procedures for developing new industrial areas at Shivapura in Hebri taluk, covering 74.84 acres; Kerebettu, 38.75 acres; Nitte in Karkala, 50.42 acres; and Uppur in Brahmavar taluk, spread across 101.19 acres. She said the process should be completed at the earliest to facilitate the establishment of industries.
Reviewing the progress of industrial units, she said entrepreneurs had earlier been directed to start operations on 17 allotted plots. Of these, five units have been fully established, construction is underway on nine plots, while no progress has been made on the remaining three. With more than 15 entrepreneurs seeking industrial plots, officials were directed to initiate action, as per rules, to reallot plots where industrial units have not been established. DC also stressed the need to provide roads, water supply, electricity and drainage facilities in industrial areas. Noting that 484 posts were vacant across various industrial units in the district, she directed officials to facilitate recruitment and provide opportunities to local candidates.
